LANSING, Mich. — Coming off an exciting midweek matchup, Lansing Common FC returns home after a 2–0 win over 1927SC in Fort Wayne on Thursday. The Robins now shift their focus to a friendly against former Midwest Premier League members Livonia City FC at Eastern Stadium.

For the first time in more than two weeks, LCFC is back in Lansing to play in front of its home fans. In that time, a lot has changed—especially in the MWPL standings.

With back-to-back victories in Indiana over Goshen City and 1927SC, LCFC remains undefeated in MWPL play and now leads the Great Lakes West Division with 13 points through five games and a plus-six goal differential. The Robins’ next league match is set for Friday, June 27, on the road against Tulip City United SC.

In the meantime, the Robins look to stay sharp against Livonia City FC, with many reserves expected to have an opportunity to impress the coaching staff and potentially earn a future call-up.

In Lansing Common’s previous friendly against Red Cedar FC, head coach Brent Sorg explained his philosophy for these non-league contests.

“This is an opportunity to play the reserve guys,” Sorg said. “Give them an opportunity because they give back to us.”

Sorg emphasized that the effort these players show in practice, even without regular first-team minutes, is a major reason the club values games like these.

“They’re in training all the time. They don’t play, they don’t get rostered for first-team games,” Sorg said. “We shared with them, at the end of the day, this is about you. This is an opportunity for you to prove that you belong.”

Heading into the match, the biggest question will be which players get the nod in the starting lineup and who will seize the chance to make a name for themselves.

After a 15-day absence from Eastern Stadium, LCFC returns to Lansing to face Livonia City FC tonight at 6 p.m. Tickets are just $5 online or $7 at the gate. Food vendors Fifth String Food Truck and Capital City Sweets will be at the game in addition to Lansing Common’s regular concessions menu.
