LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Common FC will travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to take on 1927SC on Thursday, June 19 at 7 p.m.
LCFC had a bye week after its resilient 3-2 win over Goshen City FC on June 8. Lansing head coach Brent Sorg was impressed with how his team battled, didn’t let their emotions take over and trusted the process.
The Robins are 3-0-1 on the season and currently sit in first place in the Midwest Premier League’s Great Lakes East Division, but being at the top can’t go undefended.
“We’ve got to try to do our best to not drop points,” Sorg said. “When you’re at the top, everyone guns for you.”
Sorg has instilled playing with attack, being dangerous and taking chances into the team. The players have fully bought into this, he said.
“It’s been good because some of these guys come from a different culture or background where that’s not how they used to play, so I think the guys have done a good job buying into it,” Sorg said.
Going into Thursday, Sorg would like to see more offensive production despite the team putting up three against Goshen City FC in their last game.
“It’s a tough task to go there,” Sorg said of 1927SC. “Last year we didn’t do well when we went there, but they’re a different side this year, just like we are, so the expectation is to try to go in and take three points.”
Last season, LCFC fell 4-1 to 1927SC in Fort Wayne, but this year’s Robins are rested and ready for the challenge.
Sorg hopes to have midfield playmaker Roarke Watterson available, along with defenders Ben Novello and Damian Addai, who have stepped up after an injury to center back Myles Foster ended his season prematurely. Forwards Xtreme Hauk and Carter Hagan are expected to continue to make an impact like they did against Goshen City FC. Sorg also hinted at a new player signing who would be a familiar face to long-time Lansing Common supporters.
1927SC is 1-4 this season, recently picking up its first win, 3-0, over Grand Rapids SC on June 14. Landon Wells scored two of the goals and Edoardo Moretti knocked in the other.
Lansing Common will seek its revenge on Thursday, June 19 at 7 p.m. at the Fort Wayne Sport Club. The game can be watched live on 1927 SC’s YouTube page.
The Robins will return home to Eastern Stadium on Saturday, June 21, for a friendly against Livonia FC at 7 p.m. Tickets are just $5 online or $7 at the gate. Food vendors Fifth String Food Truck and Capital City Sweets will be at the game in addition to Lansing Common’s regular concessions menu.
