LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Common FC took care of business against former Midwest Premier League foe Livonia City FC in a friendly match on Saturday, June 21.

The Robins walked away with a 3-1 victory, maintaining their unbeaten record in 2025.

“Anytime you’re at the top, you’re always going to have guys gunning for you,” Lansing Common head coach Brent Sorg said.

The first half looked like it would end scoreless, but in the 45th minute, midfielder Zach Holden knocked one in for Lansing to give them a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

“He puts himself in the right position,” Sorg said. It was good to see and a credit to his work ethic.”

Lansing held Livonia scoreless for over 90 minutes, but Livonia was granted a penalty kick in added time and converted to make the final score 3-1. Sorg felt that defensively, his team missed assignments in the middle, allowing Livonia moments to take advantage.

Sorg dipped into his reserves for this friendly match, allowing players who don’t typically get first team minutes to make an impression on him and the coaching staff. He was impressed with Holden, defenders Dylan Bott, Mason Winkel and other contributors to the backline, as well as goalkeepers Jackson Kiszka and Lazaro Salais.

LCFC will return to MWPL play on Friday, June 27 at 7 p.m. against Tulip City United SC at Holland High School’s Soccer Stadium. Going into that matchup, Sorg emphasized a focused mindset, despite being undefeated.

“It’s going to be important for us to stay focused on the process of what we’re trying to accomplish and not get too results-oriented,” Sorg said.

Lansing Common will return to Eastern Stadium on Sunday, June 29 at 4 p.m. to face Goshen City FC on Pride Night. Tickets are just $5 online or $7 at the gate. Food vendors Smokey Styles BBQ and Capital City Sweets will be at the game in addition to Lansing Common’s regular concessions menu.
