Head Coach
Brent Sorg
Brent Sorg is headed into his 3rd season as Lansing Common Head Coach in 2024. Prior to being named head coach, Sorg was Interim Head Coach for the second half of the 2022 season, and an assistant coach for Lansing Common in 2021.
Sorg spent 5 years as a college assistant coach first at Alma College for two seasons, and then at Spring Arbor University. Prior to that, Sorg was the boys soccer coach at Williamston High School for 12 years, compiling a record of 151-90-21, and leading the team to its first district championship in the program’s history. Sorg’s Williamston teams won six league championships, seven district championships, one Regional Title, and reached the Division 3 State Finals in 2012, 2014, and 2015.
Sorg is a seven-time winner of the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association (MIHSSCA) District Coach of the Year, three-time MIHSSCA Regional Coach of the Year, and was named MIHSSCA Coach of the Year for all of Michigan in 2014. He was also named Lansing State Journal Coach of the Year in 2012. Sorg earned his “B” License from the United States Soccer Association in 1999 and his U.S. Youth National License in 2010.
Sorg currently coaches in the Michigan Olympic Development Soccer Program and for Michigan Jaguars FC.
Assistant Coach
Todd Derby
Todd Derby currently serves in a variety of coaching and coaching education roles, including as a Head Coach in the Michigan Olympic Development Program, a role he has been in for over 20 years, and as a USSF Coaching Education Instructor. Over his 30 year coaching career Derby has experienced success at multiple levels, from high school and club soccer to most recently an undefeated season as an Assistant Coach with Legacy FC’s Women’s Pro-Am team. Derby holds a USSF A License and NDC US Soccer Instructors License.
