At the midway point of the season, Lansing Common FC are contending for the top spot in the West Division of the Midwest Premier League’s new Great Lakes Conference. The Robins have earned 13 points and are tied with league newcomers 1927 Sport Club of Ft. Wayne, IN. All six games in the second half of Lansing’s season will be played at home.
Both clubs sit four points back of rivals West Michigan Bearings with two matches in hand. After only amassing two points from their first three matches, the Bearings have won five straight, including three-consecutive clean sheets. The Bearings have outscored their opponents 17-3 during their current winning streak.
1927 Sport Club emerged on the scene with a torrid pace, opening the season with a four-match win streak that extended into early June. However, 1927 SC has recently slowed down, having dropped points in each of their previous two matches: a 3-2 defeat to Troy United and a draw against Inter Detroit, in what many thought could be a clash of potential division winners.
Fellow returnees Livonia City FC and Tulip City United are also in contention. After starting the season with three-straight wins, Livonia has mustered just two victories in their last five matches. Tulip City has had an up-and-down start finding points hard to come by. Tulip City went winless against its West Michigan neighbors, BiH Grand Rapids and Bearings, but is coming off an 8-2 win in the Holland Derby against Holland Struikrovers.
Expansion club Futsal Factory Academy has only two wins on the season so far. FFA’s lone victories came against BiH Grand Rapids and Holland Struikrovers, but its campaign has been book-ended by multi-match winless streaks, including the three-match drought they find themselves in entering the weekend.
BiH Grand Rapids, United West FC, and Holland Struikrovers round out the bottom three teams in the West Division. BiH’s two wins this season include a striking 1-0 victory over Tulip City and a 4-0 bashing of United West to begin the month of June.
United West’s lone win in eight matches came against Troy United in a 2-1 victory at home in Hudsonville. Struikrovers, after earning their first win of the season over United West, find themselves at the bottom of the table having suffered five-consecutive multi-goal losses through their June slate of matches.
Current standings can be found on the Midwest Premier League’s website.
Tickets to Lansing Common FC’s remaining home games can be purchased for $5 online through the Fanbase Clubs app or $7 at the gate.
