LANSING, Mich – After suffering consecutive losses to Goshen City FC and Tulip City United SC in back-to-back weeks, Lansing Common FC settled for a 3-3 draw against Grand Rapids SC in a Friday night matchup at Eastern Stadium.

It was the tale of two halves as Lansing Common jumped out to an early lead before surrendering it late in the match.

Following a back-and-forth opening, midfielder Elijah Vue broke the scoreless tie in the 27th minute when Joey Farhat played him into the box and Vue was able to evade a defender.

Lansing Common kept its momentum after halftime. In the 51st minute, defender Ameer Shetiah sent a cross into the box that Vue headed in for his second goal of the match to extend Lansing’s lead to 3-0.

“He’s a joy to watch, because he’s just creative. He plays simple and keeps the game lively. And the second goal I thought was class,” Head Coach Brent Sorg said.

The momentum began to shift in Grand Rapids SC’s direction when a goal was scored by the visitors in the 70th minute.

Grand Rapids continued to apply pressure, scoring again in the 85th minute, cutting Lansing Common’s lead down to 3-2.

Just two minutes later, Grand Rapids was awarded a penalty kick when defender Val Burlacenco committed a foul in the box. The visitors were able to convert the spot kick and level the match at 3-3.

“I thought we were sloppy in some of those moments. We’re committing fouls where they are able to serve balls into the box. That is problematic, and that created chances for them,” said Sorg.

Despite four minutes of added time, neither team was able to find a winner, and the match ended in a 3-3 draw.

“I mean, looking across the way, they’re celebrating like they won the game, and we’re disappointed that we’ve given up an opportunity to potentially, if we won, still be in the hunt,” said Sorg.

Lansing Common returns to Eastern Stadium for the 2026 season finale when they face Holland Rovers on Saturday, July 18, at 6 p.m. Tickets are just $5 online or $7 at the gate.
