LANSING, Mich – After two Friendly victories, Lansing Common FC hosted 1927SC for its first Midwest Premier League match of the 2026 season.

The first half was a showcase for the goalkeepers: 1927SC’s David Anderson and Lansing’s Vaios Papadoudis. Both keepers did well to keep the match scoreless into the break.

Papadoudis had a standout showing and was named Lansing Common’s Man of the Match.

“It’s kind of my job, at the end of the day, as the last guy on the line,” Papadoudis said. “Overall, it was a team effort, team result.”

LCFC’s head coach Brent Sorg highlighted Papadoudis’ performance against his friends and former teammates at 1927SC, a club based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Papadoudis played his most recent college season for Indiana Wesleyan.

“I think he had a special motivation to perform on that level,” Sorg said. “He did exactly that, he was our man of the match.”

1927SC turned up the pressure at the start of the second half, but a second yellow card was issued to Wesley Keshenje in the 58th minute, giving the Robins a man advantage for the rest of the match.

Despite numerous saves by Papadoudis, 1927SC found a breakthrough in the 65th minute. The visitors charged down the right flank after a free kick and fired a shot that the Lansing keeper could only parry. 1927SC forward Max Amoako was in position for the rebound and scored on the open net.

The match remained 1-0 for the rest of regular time, but five minutes were added to the clock, giving the Robins a few more opportunities to strike.

In the 95th minute of play, Lansing’s prayers would be answered. A cross from defender Jed Blough found the head of midfielder Jack Heald, whose last-second shot bounced off the post. Defender Spencer Powe found himself in perfect position to score the equalizer and leveled the game at 1-1 with the final kick of the night.

“There was a lot of fight in this team, and we’re not out of it until the final whistle,” Powe said.

Powe’s goal salvaged a league point against 1927SC, one of Lansing’s toughest conference opponents over the years.

“First game, we didn’t drop points, so that’s an important piece,” Sorg said. “Very proud of our guys and the resilience that they showed.”

Sorg noted areas of improvement for LCFC as they look to prepare for their first road test against Midwest United FC on Friday, May 22 in Grand Rapids.

“More quality in the final third. I think we’ve got to be better in our set pieces, corners. I think we’ve got to dive a little more,” Sorg said. “Midwest [United] is not going to be easy next Friday, so now we kind of turn our attention. Focus on that.”

The Robins only managed one out of a possible six points against Midwest United FC in the 2025 Midwest Premier League Season. Lansing will look to carry some momentum from Powe’s late heroics into next week’s matchup and improve parts of their game.

The match is set for Friday, May 22nd at 7 p.m. at the Midwest United FC Soccer Complex in Grand Rapids, MI.
