Beacon Field at Ferris Park in downtown Lansing is a favorite spot for Lansing soccer fans to gather and enjoy the game we love. Last fall, during one of our community cleanup volunteer days, as our Community Engagement team was picking up trash around Ferris Park, they noticed the turf was in pretty rough shape and lots of holes in the nets along with some other conditions that needed attention. Since it was built almost a decade ago Beacon Field has gotten a lot of love (and use), and it’s time for some repairs to ensure it continues to be a safe place for Lansing residents to gather and play soccer.
That’s why Lansing Common FC is partnering with the City of Lansing Parks and Recreation Department to rehab Beacon Field. Through this partnership, the playing surface and nets will be replaced this summer, and additional enhancements are planned for down the road.
“We do know that this field here in this park is used really well,” said Lansing Parks director Brett Kaschinske. “I think what you are seeing with some of the wear and tear here thankfully is from use and not from abuse.”
At Lansing Common FC, we are always looking for ways that we can multiply our impacts by working with partners. Since our founding at the end of 2019, Beacon Field has been a natural place for us to dig in and get some dirt under our fingernails. Back in those early days for the club, and through the worst of the pandemic, Lansing’s parks provided a place for all of us to gather safely, be together and grow our community. That’s why it’s been important to us since our founding that we focus on what we can do to clean up and help make Lansing’s parks better.
Beacon Field is a great place to gather, that gives people of all ages a place to get together and play soccer, and we want to be supportive of that in the community, which is why we’re so excited about this partnership. When you join us at a game this season or purchase a membership or any of our merchandise, that support goes directly into strengthening our impact in the Lansing community.
