As our inaugural season approaches, we wanted to give you more of an introduction to the players who will represent Lansing Common on the field this summer. Today, it’s time to get to know Lirim Shefkiu.

What position do you play and what do you think Lansing Common fans will enjoy most about the way you play?

I play midfield, winger, or striker. I think the fans will enjoy my creativity on the ball

You are currently playing for Coach Oaks at Spring Arbor. How would you describe the way Spring Arbor plays, and how you fit into that system?

The way we play is building up through the back. I think I fit in well to this system as I think that is the way to play futbol. It should not be a kick and run type of game.

You are famous for making the game winning PK during a shootout for the state title back at Mason. What is going through your mind when you walk up to the ball in a tense moment like that? Based on what I’ve read, those seem to be situations you thrive in.

I love those moments. I have 100% confidence whenever I step up to a penalty kick and love the pressure.

You and your brother both played together at Mason, you are both on Spring Arbor right now, and now you’ll both be on Lansing Common FC. In what ways does having your brother on the same team as you help you on the field?

I think we have chemistry and have a similar play style that looks really good on the field. It can get us out of tight situations by passing and moving and drawing defenders in, to open up players elsewhere.

What is something you would say you are much better than your brother at on the field, and what is something he is much better than you at?

I think Leutrim is a top player and I can’t pinpoint one thing either of us do better, but his ability to play a ball on the player’s foot is unmatched.

What was your favorite moment you have ever had on a soccer field?

My favorite moment is when I scored the game-winning goal in high school and my mom found her way onto the field when they weren’t allowing fans and she came and hugged me and my brother which is something that was incredibly special and was better than anything that happened in the game or anything in my career.

What hobbies do you have when you aren’t playing soccer?

I like to listen to and find new music.
