LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Common FC is hosting fellow Lansing club Red Cedar FC for a friendly match on Lansing Facts Night at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 6. The Robins will resume league play on Sunday, June 8 when they travel to Indiana to face Goshen City FC in the Midwest Premier League.

LCFC’s popular Lansing Facts-inspired ‘Big Penny’ goalkeeper jersey has sold out in most sizes, but a limited pre-order is available through Sunday, June 8 for fans that are still hoping to get one.

LCFC is undefeated in the MWPL so far this season with a record of 2-0-1 after collecting a win at home over Grand Rapids SC on May 31. The Robins now turn their attention to a non-league opponent for Friday’s exhibition.

Several LCFC players that have been performing well in training are expected to see playing time against Red Cedar FC. Lansing head coach Brent Sorg was proud of his depth stepping up and adopting the ‘next man up’ mentality during the match against GRFC.

Midfielders Brett Swaton, Ali Ahmad, and Josh Madery and forward Carter Hagan all earned starts last weekend. Sorg thought they were reliable and did their jobs well.

The lone goal against GRFC was scored by Ahmad in the 36th minute off an assist from defender Max Crawford.

“It was just clever,” Sorg said of Ahmad’s goal. “He just picks his head up, he sees the window and it wasn’t even powerful. It was the placement of it.”

Sorg thinks that his team could be more dangerous in the final phase.

“We did take more chances. I thought we had more shots,” Sorg said of the GRSC match. “But it’s even guys being committed to getting to the box, hitting spaces, rebounds and little deflections. I thought that’s something that will take this team to a little bit higher level.”

Red Cedar FC plays both indoor and outdoor soccer, participating in Major League Indoor Soccer during the winter months and the Michigan United Soccer League’s First Division during the summer. They are off to a 1-0-1 start to their MUSL season, earning their first win last weekend against Dragon FC.

Lansing Common FC and Red Cedar FC will go head to head on Friday at 7 p.m. at Eastern Stadium. Tickets are just $5 online or $7 at the gate. Food vendors Outlaw Snack Society, Capital City Sweets, and Snow Stars Shave Ice will be at the game in addition to Lansing Common’s regular concessions menu.
