LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Common FC will open its Midwest Premier League season against Tulip City United SC on Saturday, May 17, also known locally as 517 Day.
LCFC has played a trio of exhibitions against Troy United FC, Detroit Badgers FC and Ypsilanti Athletic FC. The Robins have come out on top in all three and must now win when it counts.
Lansing topped Ypsilanti 7-0 on May 10. LCFC head coach Brent Sorg’s takeaway from the game was that the team addressed things at halftime and improved in the second half.
“That has nothing to do with goal production, it just was us being better,” Sorg said.
The Robins scored two goals in the first half and another five in the second. Three of those second-half goals came from a Michael Kostoglanis hat trick.
Owen Resch scored a brace and Ali Ahmad and Elijah Maas also put in a goal each against Ypsilanti.
Sorg thinks that his team could be more lethal in moments where they’re one pass or one cross away from a goal.
“I think we were just maybe a little bit casual and a little reactionary instead of guys just taking that initiative and driving to the near post or pulling away,” Sorg said.
Tulip City United hosted Goshen City FC on May 10 in their Midwest Premier League season opener. Tulip City fell to Goshen City 3-1, with its one goal coming from Jonah Meyer-Crothers.
The last meeting between the Robins and Tulip City ended in a 1-1 draw back in July 2024.
LCFC and Tulip City will go head to head on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Eastern Stadium. Tickets are just $5 online or $7 at the gate. Smash Shack and The Taco Hub food trucks will be at the game in addition to Lansing Common’s regular concessions menu.
