Lansing Common’s second and final friendly of the 2023 season was won convincingly, as the Robins defeated Northville United 5-0 on Friday, May 19 at a rainy Eastern Stadium.
It was all smooth sailing for Lansing Common, as the team controlled possession and capitalized on scoring opportunities throughout the match.
With another clean sheet, the Robins have outscored their opponents 9-0 through the first two matches this season.
“The mentality of us being the best team without the ball has been something we pride ourselves on,” said head coach Brent Sorg. “Two clean sheets is something that we have to continue to stay the course with.”

Forward Seth Russ was one of the stars of the night, with two goals in the first half – both coming in the 14th and 20th minute.

Later in the match, Julian Birge was subbed on in the 83rd minute. Three minutes later, the midfielder from East Lansing added two goals of his own to the scoring column, making it 5-0.
“It was pretty surprising, I’m not going to lie,” said Birge. “There were great balls in by [Daniel] Silva, and it was just the right place at the right time.”
